An overview to Collinz Primary

At Collinz International School, we strive to instil the love for learning in every student's heart at a young age. We believe that student's passion for learning motivates them to strive for success in their learning process. Our goal is to ensure that our students are nurtured and challenged through a fun and engaging learning process in order to fulfil their individual potential.

Collinz Primary Syllabus

The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is a comprehensive, thematic, creative curriculum focused around subjects. It is a simple but structured curriculum whereby students learn in a creative and engaging way.

It encourages students to have specific learning goals in mind while adapting to children's interests and level of understanding. Students are guided through 2 Key Stages during their Primary Years, learning new concepts yearly through a creative and engaging way.

Key Stage 1: Developing your child's academic and personal growth through an active approach.

Key Stage 2: Building a strong foundation in English, Maths and Science while incorporating Arts, Music, Physical Education and World Languages such as Malay and Mandarin.

Primary Years (Key Stage 1)

Overview
  • Age Range: 6/7 - 7/8 years old
  • Year Groups: Years 1 - 2

Learning in KS1 is rooted on 4 core themes as shown below:

Academic Focused

Holistic Education:
We strive to continuously develop children's academic, social and emotional aspects in Year 1 to Year 3 through a fun, active approach to learning.

Child centred:
Children learn best when they are given a voice to lead their own learning. Through guidance of our teachers, students are given numerous opportunities to develop independency in their learning through interactive activities.

Collinz International Schools have been designed purposefully to deliver our curriculum and to meet the various needs of our students effectively. In our classrooms, students can move around freely to engage in various class activities such as working collaboratively with their classmates. Our classrooms are also equipped with proper equipment such as projectors to fully support students' learning.

Learning in KS1 takes place in a nurturing environment facilitated by our loving and caring teachers. Our teachers guide students in every step they take in their learning process by providing them the knowledge they need to acquire patiently while also helping them develop the skills and passions to learn.

Throughout Year 1-3 (KS1), students are taught all of the following subjects:

Subjects

Students develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills through exploration of letter sounds, vocabulary and grammar by engaging with a range of text types to mould them into becoming competent readers and writers in English as a First Language.

They learn how to employ a wide-ranging vocabulary, use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation, and develop a personal style and an awareness of the audience being addressed.

Through their studies, learners achieve a thorough understanding of a wide range of registers and styles and learn to communicate appropriately in different situations. The syllabus focuses on the linked language skills of reading, writing, listening and oral communication.

Students develop a solid understanding of mathematical concepts by making connections, reasoning and solving problems.

Specialist Subjects
  • Physical Education

    Students practice a physically healthy lifestyle in school by mastering basic movements, balance, agility and coordination during PE lessons as well as participating in outdoor sports activities and sports events.

  • Art

    Students express their creativity through drawing and painting. Students' work is exhibited in schools.

  • Music

    Students are cultivated to develop the 3 skills, composing, performing and listening. During music lessons, students learn to play various musical instruments and are given opportunities to perform as a group through school assemblies and school events. They also learn different musical terminology which greatly benefits them in playing various musical instruments.

Students develop their scientific understanding through different types of enquiry which assist them to answer questions they have regarding the world around them.

Students develop an understanding of the implications of technology in society and the ways Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can help at home, work and the wider world. Through practical and theoretical studies, students solve problems using a variety of common software such as word processors and interactive presentation software.

Moral (Non-Malays): Moral Education helps students to develop critical thinking among the students as they tend to become more rational and understanding of the situation around them.

Islamic Studies (Malays): learners will study the history and culture of Islam and key figures in the faith. They will also study and reflect upon different extracts of religious texts and have the opportunity to think about how texts relate to how Muslims think and act in everyday life today.

The programme develops the skills of research, analysis, evaluation, reflection, collaboration and communication. It strengthens the links across English as a first or second language, mathematics, science and ICT Starters.

History syllabus looks at some of the major international issues of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as covering the history of particular regions in more depth. The emphasis is on both historical knowledge and on the skills required for historical research.

  • (CCA) Co-curricular Activities & (ECA) Extra Curricular Activities

    CCA is an integral part of our students’ holistic education. Through CCA, students discover their interests and talents while developing values and competencies that will prepare them for a rapidly changing world. CCA also promotes friendships among students from diverse backgrounds as they learn, play and grow together. Participation in CCA fosters social integration and deepens students’ sense of belonging, commitment and sense of responsibility to school, community and nation.
